Hi, I'm Jess, the crafter behind YarnPalette. Like most tools worth building, this one started because I needed it myself.
I crochet, and one of my favorite things to make is full costumes made entirely of yarn. You can see my work here
If you've ever tried to recreate a character design in yarn, you know the problem: you have a reference image with an incredibly specific color palette, and then you have a wall of yarn skeins that all sort of look right, until you get them home and realize the "forest green" you bought is nowhere near the forest green you needed.
I got tired of eyeballing it. I was tired of holding my laptop screen next to yarn under bad lighting, tired of committing to a huge package of "close enough" skeins and still being wrong, tired of the making spreadsheets full of hex codes.
So I built YarnPalette to solve my own problem: a simple way to take a reference color from a photo, from a character design, from anywhere, and find the yarns that actually match it, without the guesswork.
If you're a cosplayer trying to nail an exact character palette, a crafter working from a photo reference, or just someone who wants their next project's colors to actually match what's in your head, this tool is for you. It's built by someone who hits the same wall you do, for exactly the same reasons.
YarnPalette is still growing! More brands, more colorways, and more ways to fine-tune your matches are on the way. If there's a brand or feature you'd love to see added, I'd genuinely love to hear about it.
Happy crafting.
